Great Baby Shower Gift Options for Mom's Who Have Everything

Posted by Jacek on 12/27/2013 to NEWBORN
Baby showers are fun, but you want to make sure that you buy mom the items that she needs to make her life with her new baby a bit easier. Many people will buy the basics, so you want to think outside the box and think about both mom and the baby when considering the perfect gift. The good news is that you have some options and none of them are expensive.

Burp Pillows
A burp pillow is something that most people will not think to buy a new mom, but these can be incredibly helpful. For example, babies need to be burped after every feeding to promote comfort. This type of pillow can aid with this and promote overall comfort. These can also help prevent food from backing up so that the baby does not spit up or experience acid reflux.

First Aid Kits
Babies and small children like to explore their new world and this will lead to the occasional bumps and bruises. You can find first aid kits that are made specifically for babies so that you can be sure that all items are baby safe. These kits will also have items that are specific to the types of accidents that babies can get into. New moms have enough on their minds and a first aid kit can give them a little peace of mind.

Bath Accessories
Things like a sink-based tub and a water temperature thermometer are items that are necessary to safely and effectively bathe a baby. These can be found at any store that sells baby items. The water temperature thermometer is usually something like a floating duck or turtle that doubles as a toy and a water thermometer. The sink tubs are usually plastic and it gives mom a safe place to bathe her baby.

Spitting up and vomiting

Spitting up and vomiting in babies
have become a huge area of parental concern.
After your baby swallows milk, it glides past the back of the throat into a muscular tube (the esophagus) and, from there, into the stomach.

Infants are especially prone to reflux because:

  • Their stomachs are quite small so they are easily distended by the milk
  • The lower esophagus valve may be immature and may not tighten up when it should
There are a few things that might help:

1. Keep your baby upright after feeding for some time

2. Elevate whole baby's body when laying down (to let gravity help out)

3. Make sure there's no pressure on the stomach
